Watermark

A visible or invisible overlay on content used to identify the creator and deter unauthorized redistribution.

A watermark is a text or graphic overlay applied to photos and videos that identifies the content creator and discourages unauthorized sharing or piracy. On OnlyFans, watermarking is one of the most important steps a creator can take to protect their intellectual property. Watermarks typically include the creator’s username, page URL, or a custom logo.

OnlyFans offers a built-in watermark feature that automatically applies your username to content you upload. However, many creators opt for custom watermarks that are more prominent or harder to crop out. The goal is to ensure that if your content is shared without permission, it still carries your branding, which both deters redistribution and drives traffic back to your page if the content does spread.

Effective watermark placement is a balance between visibility and aesthetics. A watermark that is too small or placed in a corner can easily be cropped out. A watermark that is too large or obtrusive can detract from the viewing experience and reduce subscriber satisfaction. Many creators place semi-transparent watermarks across the center or a key area of the image where cropping would destroy the content itself.

Beyond deterrence, watermarks serve an important legal function. When filing DMCA takedown notices against piracy sites, having a clear watermark makes it easier to prove ownership of the content. Some creators also use invisible or forensic watermarks that embed unique identifiers into the file, allowing them to trace exactly which subscriber leaked a particular piece of content. This advanced approach can be especially valuable for high-earning creators dealing with persistent piracy.
